Core Book Lists

 Core Texts, Songs and Rhymes

We provide opportunities for children to ‘behave like a reader’ and discuss:

- the author (who wrote the story) & illustrator (person who drew the pictures / took the photos)

- publisher (usually a picture logo)

- directionality of print left to right

- the cover, inside title page, blurb on the back

- the purpose of punctuation

- key words

- letters in words that are meaningful e.g. in their name

- pick out long/unusual words

To support learning in literacy we would like children to have experienced these stories, songs and rhymes during their time in our setting:

Under 3s

Over 3s
